Cabinet to discuss Tax Commission proposals
The recommendations of the Commission on Taxation are likely to be on the agenda as the Cabinet holds its regular weekly meeting in Dublin today.
The proposals - published by the Government on Monday - include the introduction of a property tax, carbon taxes, water charges and the taxing of child benefit payments.
Ministers have been quick to stress that they have no intention of implementing all the recommendations.
This suggests the Government is likely to shy away from the hugely controversial property tax proposal.
However, a carbon tax is expected to be introduced in December's budget as it was a key priority for the Green Party.
The taxing of child benefit is also believed to have significant support among the Cabinet.
