Dutch policies 'could improve Irish health system'

A senior Dutch health official has told Fine Gael's annual think-in in Cavan that Ireland's health system could be greatly improved if policies from the Netherlands were introduced.

The Dutch health service is regarded as one of the best Europe, with no waiting lists and free GP visits.

Doctor Theo Van Uum, the director of policy at the Dutch Ministry for Health, is outlining details of the system to Fine Gael TDs and senators today.

He says the main elements of the Dutch system would work in Ireland and could prove very successful.
