Ryan: Not all tax proposals will be adopted

Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has said the Government won't be adopting all of the recommendations made by the Commission on Taxation.

The body has spent the past 18 months drawing up proposals on how to reform the tax system in order to make it less vulnerable to shocks like the collapse in the property market.

One of its main proposals is that stamp duty be replaced by an annual property tax.

However, reports this morning say Government sources have already indicated that this proposal will be shelved due to the extent of public opposition it could provoke.

Speaking in Dublin today, Mr Ryan said not all of the various proposals would be implemented and the Government would have to carefully consider the report before deciding which measures to adopt.
