LRC refers Element Six dispute to Labour Court

The LRC has referred the dispute at the Element Six plant in Shannon to the Labour Court.

Unions at the Co Clare plant are endeavouring to seek improved redundancy terms for 207 staff whose jobs are to go.

The row erupted last month when Element Six announced its intention to cease operations, but a survival plan in which 243 jobs would be saved was negotiated a week later.

The referral to the Labour Court comes as part of efforts to secure a sustainable future for the commercial diamond manufacturer.
