Green Isle workers picket over job cuts

Forty workers at Green Isle Foods in Co Kildare are mounting pickets on the Naas plant this morning in protest at job cuts.

Seven workers were sacked over alleged misconduct but the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union - which represents workers - has accused management of trying to implement redundancies on the cheap.

It said the company has drafted in craft workers from the UK to cope with the workload while its members are on strike.
