Man charged after 'threatening approach' in Athlone

Gardaí in Co Westmeath have charged a 24-year-old man with assault following an incident in Athlone yesterday.

Two teenagers and a woman in her twenties were approached in a threatening manner just after midnight near the Bonavalley Bridge.

A man was arrested on the nearby dual carriageway a short time later and taken in for questioning.

He is due to appear before Athlone District Court next month.
