Martin warns against second Lisbon ‘no’ vote
Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has told the Humbert School in Co Mayo that Ireland faces being left at the edge of European matters if the Lisbon Treaty is rejected for a second time.
Mr Martin told attendees at the event in Ballina last night that EU member states would question Ireland's commitment to Europe if there was another 'no' vote in October.
He also claimed a 'yes' vote would speed up Ireland's economic recovery by sending out a positive signal to investors.
Mr Martin said the EU guarantees and promises secured by the Irish Government earlier this year represent a generous response to the issues raised by Irish voters.
