Element 6 workers to stage lunchtime protest

Staff at Element 6 in Shannon are set to hold a mass protest rally today to highlight their anger regarding redundancy terms being offered as part of the company's survival plan.

The industrial diamond manufacturer had initially planned to cut 370 jobs at the facility, but almost 170 of these would be saved under the survival plan.

The workers, however, are refusing to co-operate with the plan unless improved redundancy terms are offered to their colleagues who will be losing their jobs.

They are due to stage a demonstration at lunchtime today.
