Knife attacks prompt calls for more gardaí in Mayo
Local politicians are calling for more gardaí in Mayo following a series of knife attacks in recent days.
Four men were stabbed in two separate incidents in Ballinrobe over the weekend, one of whom is being treated for serious head injuries at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
The other three are recovering in hospital in Mayo.
No arrests have been made in connection with the stabbings, which follow a knife attack on a garda in Westport last weekend and the death of 24-year-old Francis Heneghan in Kiltimagh on Wednesday.
Local representatives say more garda resources are needed in the region to deal with public order and drug problems.
