Results of Element 6 ballot expected today

The result of a ballot for industrial action at Element 6 in Co Clare is expected to be known later today.

Employees at the Shannon plant decided to vote on industrial action earlier this week as part of a dispute over redundancy payments.

The company had initially planned to lay off 370 staff at the facility, but it has since brokered a survival plan that will save around 170 of those jobs.

The workers, however, are refusing to co-operate with the plan unless improved redundancy terms are offered to staff members who will lose their jobs.

The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union says Element 6 has shown no willingness to negotiate.
