HSE threatens court action against more pharmacies

The HSE is warning pharmacies that it is prepared to take more of them to court to force them to resume dispensing medicine under state drug schemes.

Yesterday, the High Court extended an injunction against 35 pharmacies which had withdrawn from the schemes as part of the ongoing row regarding cuts in the fees they receive from the HSE.

The HSE began sending out letters to other pharmacies last night warning that those who fail to honour existing contracts in full could be before the courts.

Around 500 pharmacies have withdrawn from state schemes following a unilateral cut in the fees they receive for participation.
