Health chiefs were today warned patients‘ safety was at risk as hundreds of chemists are expected to stop dispensing prescriptions to medical card holders.

The Irish Pharmacy Union, which is locked in a bitter row with the Government over plans to cut fees, claimed the contingency plans by health chiefs were totally inadequate.
