A 31-year-old man charged in connection with a fatal assault on a woman outside the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin city-centre last month has been remanded on continuing bail pending directions from the DPP.

A 31-year-old man charged in connection with a fatal assault on a woman outside the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin city-centre last month has been remanded on continuing bail pending directions from the DPP.

Wesley Ward, with an address at Aras Na Cluaine, in Clondalkin, Dublin was charged last month at the Dublin District Court with assault causing harm to Tracy O’Brien (aged 31), at Parnell Square West, on June 18 last.

He had been remanded on bail in his own bond of €500 and an independent surety in the sum of €5,000 until yesterday (FRI).

Defence solicitor Mr Conor Ruane told Judge Dermot Dempsey that his client was consenting to an application from Detective Sergeant Desmond McTiernan for a six-week remand as directions are being sought.

Judge Dempsey remanded Mr Ward, who is unemployed and in receipt of social welfare, on continuing bail to appear again in September.

Ms O’Brien, from the North Circular Road, in Dublin was taken to Beaumont Hospital but died on Thursday, June 25 last.
