3,700 affordable homes unsold in early part of 2009
The number of unsold affordable housing units held by local authorities increased to 3,700 in the early part of this year, according to a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General.
The figure stood at just over 2,000 at the end of 2007.
Today's report says the Affordable Homes Partnership delivered almost 1,100 homes through two land swap deals and direct procurement.
It also achieved discounts of 2% in 2006 and 2007.
However, the report says the future contribution of the Affordable Homes Partnership should be reviewed in light of changed housing market conditions.
