Gardaí appeal for witnesses in attempted ATM robbery

Gardaí in Monaghan have launched an investigation after a digger was used to try to steal an ATM machine from a bank.

The incident happened at the Ulster Bank in Clones at around 4.30am today.

Gardaí believe two people were involved and that the digger was stolen earlier in Kells in Co Meath.

The attempt to steal the ATM was unsuccessful but considerable damage was caused to the bank.

The scene has been preserved and will be examined today.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
