Farmers to hold protest in Cavan
Farmers are to hold a major demonstration today against government cuts to farm incomes.
They will protest in Cavan - the home town of Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith.
Farmers have said the sector is being decimated by a number of recent government cuts.
This week's report from An Bord Snip Nua was described by the Irish Farmers’ Association as a "barefaced attack on rural Ireland".
President Padraig Walshe said the report clearly demonstrated the "narrow mentality" of those with no appreciation of the importance of the rural economy.
The protest will assemble at Cavan Mart at noon.
