The French authorities are seeking the early hearing of an extradition request for an Irishman wanted in connection with the stabbing to death of a man in the French port city of Calais almost seven years ago.

The French authorities are seeking the early hearing of an extradition request for an Irishman wanted in connection with the stabbing to death of a man in the French port city of Calais almost seven years ago.

The authorities in France are seeking an order for the surrender of Michael Joseph O'Connor (aged 46) who is currently detained at the Midlands' Prison but with addresses in Waterford and Dublin on charges including that he killed one Mr Jean-Jacques Bertelort, who was found dead in the city of Calais in early November 2002.
