Man still in custody in connection with killing of Co Mayo woman

Gardaí in Co Mayo are continuing to question a 29-year-old man today in connection with the death of a 61-year-old woman yesterday morning.

The mother-of-seven was stabbed to death at her home in Castlebar in the early hours of the morning.

She was found in the hallway of the house at around 4am and was pronounced dead at Mayo General Hospital despite the efforts of paramdedics to save her life.

More than 200 people paid tribute to her at a special mass yesterday at the Sacred Heart Home where she had worked as a nurse for the past 20 years.
