Kidnapped GOAL worker beginning fifth day in captivity
Diplomatic efforts to secure the release of kidnapped Irish aid worker Sharon Commins are continuing in Sudan today.
The 32-year-old GOAL employee is spending her fifth day in captivity after being abducted along with a Ugandan colleague by a gang of armed men in Darfur last Friday.
A team of Irish officials and diplomats have travelled to Darfur and Khartoum to oversee efforts to secure their release.
It remains unclear who was behind the kidnapping, but the Sudanese authorities have reportedly located the area where they believe the pair are being held.
