Man arrested after death of woman in Mayo

Gardaí in Co Mayo have arrested a 29-year-old man following the death of a 61-year-old woman in Castlebar this morning.

The woman was found dead at a house in Blackfort, on the Newport Road, at around 4am.

Gardaí are investigating the possibility that she may have been assaulted.

The man arrested in connection with the death was later released from custody and admitted to hospital for undisclosed reasons.

The house, meanwhile, has been sealed off for forensic examination.
