US Independence Day celebrations to take place in Dublin

There will be celebrations by Americans in most major cities around the world today for Independence Day.

Dan Rooney, the new US ambassador to Ireland, will be celebrating the day by hosting a formal reception in the Phoenix Park.

The Democratic Party in Ireland will be celebrating the day in traditional style with a barbeque in the Garda Boat Club in Dublin.

Chairman of the branch Dennis Desmond said after the hype of last year's Presidential election, today is a chance for their members to keep in touch.
