Cowen: Unemplyoment to top 500,000 by year's end

The number of people signing on the dole will shatter the 500,000 barrier by the end of the year, the Taoiseach warned today.

And that figure may soar even further into next year with no apparent sign of a peak in joblessness, Brian Cowen admitted.
