Parents urged to encourage children to play outdoors

The Irish Preschool Play Association says children need to spend more time outdoors this summer.

It is calling on parents and grandparents to spend time with their children and grandchildren over the coming months and to avoid letting them spend too much time in front of the television and computer games.

The organisation says outdoor activities are important for children's development and to counteract rising obesity figures.
