Baby dies after house fire

A baby girl has died after a house fire in the North, police said today.

Three other children from the same family – aged five, 10 and 12 – and their parents were treated for severe smoke inhalation after the blaze in Dungiven, Co Derry.

The 18-month-old girl was taken to hospital, but later died.

Three fire appliances attended the scene on the Killyblight Road after receiving a call just after 11pm yesterday.

It is understood the fire had started in a bedroom of the detached house.

The family of six had managed to vacate the building by the time fire crews arrived.

A police spokeswoman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
