Grenade thrown at house in Ennis

Gardaí in Co. Clare are investigating after a hand grenade was thrown at a house in Ennis in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí in Co. Clare are investigating after a hand grenade was thrown at a house in Ennis in the early hours of this morning.

The device, which did not detonate, was thrown through a glass panel in the front door of the house on the Childers Road just after 4am this morning.

The army has described the grenade as viable and of eastern European origin.

The house was evacuated, along with a number of other homes in the area.

The army bomb disposal team was called to the scene and the grenade was destroyed at a nearby quarry.
