Chad general to receive Distinguished Service Medal
The Irish general who commanded the EU peacekeeping mission in Chad is due to be presented with a Distinguished Service Medal by the Minister for Defence today.
Lieutenant-General Pat Nash was in charge of thousands of soldiers from several EU countries who were tasked with protecting refugee camps on the Chad-Sudan border.
The Limerick-born general, who is retiring from the army, will be presented with his medal at McKee Barracks in Dublin this afternoon.
Last month, he received France's highest honour for valour from President Nicolas Sarkozy.
