Bishops determined to maintain role in schools

Ireland's Catholic bishops appear determined to maintain their involvement in the running of hundreds of schools across the country.

The bishops issued a statement last night following a three-day meeting in Maynooth to discuss the fallout from the Ryan Report into the widespread abuse of children in religious-run State institutions.
