The chairman of Anglo Irish Bank is due to appear before the Oireachtas Finance Committee this morning to discuss the ongoing difficulties facing the company.

Donal O'Connor is set to be quizzed by TDs and Senators about the bank's financial situation after its recent announcement of €4bn losses in just six months.

The Government has agreed to give Anglo €4bn to overcome the losses and may also have to provide another €3.5bn bailout later this year if things don't improve.

Finance Committee chairman Michael Ahern says he wants to know about the long-term viability of the bank and the level of risk that the taxpayers are being exposed to.
