Fond farewell for Volvo race fleet

President Mary McAleese will lead the send off for seven round-the-world yachts today when they leave Galway's shores for Sweden on the final stages of the Volvo ocean race.

They've been in the City of the Tribes for two weeks and tourism bosses say that as many as half a million people may have visited the race village by the end of the fortnight's festival.
