Gardaí treating Galway death as murder

Gardaí confirmed this evening they are now treating as murder the death of a 20-year-old man in Galway city in the early hours of this morning.

A post-mortem examination determined that Kieran Cunningham - of Slieve Finn in Claregalway - died as a result of stab wounds.

The 20-year-old was attacked in the Williamsgate Street area of the city at about 2am.

He was found lying critically injured on the pavement and brought to University Hospital Galway, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
