Child Abuse Inquiry report to be published next week

The long-awaited final report from the Commission of Inquiry into Child Abuse is set to be published next Wednesday.

The Commission, under the chairmanship of Judge Sean Ryan, has spent the past 10 years investigating the abuse of children in state-owned institutions dating back to the 1940s.

More than 1,300 victims have been interviewed.

The Ryan Report is expected to be severely critical of religious orders and the Departments of Health and Education for neglecting children and failing to protect them from physical and sexual violence.
