Archbishop Martin says Europe needs Ireland

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, says Europe needs Ireland as much as Ireland needs Europe.

The Catholic primate was speaking as European church leaders prepared to meet the presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament in Brussels today

He said a future Europe could not simply be a Europe of the more powerful states and called for measures to protect the weak and the poor during the current recession.
