Nursing home residents fall ill with food poisoning

Eleven elderly residents at a nursing home in Co Mayo have fallen ill with suspected food poisoning.

Environmental health officers have launched an investigation after the residents, along with five staff, became sick at St Fionnan’s Community Nursing Unit in Achill.

The incident first came to light when a patient fell ill yesterday evening.

St Fionnan's caters for around 30 people, most of them over the age of 70.
