DAA to charge €1 for airport security bags

Passengers travelling through Dublin Airport face having to pay a new charge for plastic bags from today.

The Dublin Airport Authority says handing out security bags for liquids at the departures gate is costing it €70,000 each year.

It now plans to sell the bags in packs of two for €1.

Passengers are required to place all liquids over 100ml into clear plastic bags while passing through departures as part of anti-terrorism measures introduced by the EU a number of years ago.

The DAA says it is one of the last airport authorities to halt the provision, and that customers can bring their own plastic bags to the airport if they want to avoid paying for them.
