An original unsigned copy of the 1916 Proclamation fetched €250,000 when it went under the hammer in Dublin last night.

The document was sold to a private Irish collector who wants to remain anonymous.

It was part of the fourth annual Independence Sale held by Adam's and Mealy's auctioneers.

Some 70% of the 700 lots were sold for a total of €680,000.

An original signed version of the Proclamation of Independence fetched a record-breaking €360,000 at auction last year.
