Taxi drivers to protest in Dublin city centre

Taxi drivers are set to stage another protest in Dublin today as part of their campaign for a moratorium on the issuing of new taxi licences.

The drivers plan to assemble on Merrion Square at around 3pm and the demonstration is expected to continue until around 4.30pm.

The protest is the latest in a series of actions arranged by a group calling itself Taxi Drivers for Change.

They want the Government to halt the issuing of new licences in order to protect the livelihoods of existing drivers.

They say there are now so many taxis on the roads that they have to work up to 90 hours-a-week to earn a decent wage.
