Jury sworn in in 'tiger kidnapping' trial

A jury has been sworn in for the trial of five men accused of robbing €2.28m in a "tiger kidnapping" three years ago.

A jury has been sworn in for the trial of five men accused of robbing €2.28m in a "tiger kidnapping" three years ago.

The accused are charged with holding a Securicor staff member and his family hostage and with robbing €2.28m from a Securicor van at the Lower Road, Strawberry Beds in March 2005.

David Byrne (aged 36) of Old Brazeel Way, Knocksedan, Swords; Niall Byrne (aged 27), of Aughavanagh Road, Crumlin; Mark Farrelly (aged 37), of Moatview Court, Priorswood; Christopher Corcoran (aged 61), of Bayside Boulevard North, Sutton; and Jason Kavanagh (aged 34), of Parslickstown Court, Ladyswell have all pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning Mark Richardson, his wife, Marie, and their two children.

They have also pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbing Mr Richardson and Securicor on the same date.

The trial before Judge Tony Hunt, could last up to three months and 260 witnesses are listed to be called, including dozens of gardai and mobile phone experts
