Gardaí arrest man over publican's death
A man in his late 20s was arrested today over the death of a publican during a break-in.
Matthew Farrell was found dead in his pub, the Gaelic Bar in Daingean, Co Offaly in what gardaí believe may have been a robbery gone wrong in the early hours of April 1.
The arrested man was being questioned at Tullamore garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Popular 64-year-old publican Mr Farrell was found at 7.30am by his son Matt tied up on a couch where he slept downstairs because he was too ill to climb up to the bedroom above his bar.
He found his father on the ground with his hands bound behind his back with a plastic cable tie.
A post mortem revealed Mr Farrell had suffered head injuries.
