Cowen: No problem with SIPTU’s May deadline
Taoiseach Brian Cowen says he has no problem with SIPTU's May Day deadline for a new social partnership deal.
Mr Cowen is reacting to SIPTU president Jack O'Connor's warning of a campaign of prolonged industrial action unless the basics of an agreement are in place by May 1.
Talks between the social partners on the national rescue plan are due to resume in Government Buildings on Wednesday.
Brian Cowen admits the discussions have been difficult so far, but he says a deal can be done.
