Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has published proposed new legislation given the Gardaí increased powers to use covert surveillance against gangland criminals.

The Criminal Justice Surveillance Bill would allow gardaí, the Defence Forces and the Revenue Commissioners to bug suspected criminals and use the evidence gathered in court cases.
