Town sees further arson attacks on church buildings

Police are today investigating the latest in a series of attacks on properties linked to a Co Antrim church.

A shed at the rear of a Church of Ireland-owned hall on Quay Road in Ballycastle was damaged in a fire last night.

The blaze came after the Holy Trinity Church in the Diamond area of the town, associated with the fire damaged building, was itself attacked twice in the last three weeks.

The fire service was called to the blaze at 11pm last night and put out the fire, though the shed suffered extensive damage.

Police have now appealed for anyone with information on the blaze to come forward.

On Sunday March 29 windows at the Holy Trinity Church were smashed.

On Monday April 6 the church vestry was ransacked and attempts were made to remove a safe.

Police today said they are actively investigating the incidents and appealed for help from the public.
