Man dies in suspected stolen car

A 24-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a suspected stolen car today, gardaí said.

The driver died when the vehicle crashed into a roundabout in west Dublin at around 2.20am.

Two other men, also in their 20s, were arrested near the scene and were being held at Blanchardstown garda station.

Gardaí said the car was not being pursued when it crashed on the Ongar Distribution Road near Blanchardstown.

Officers believe it may have ben taken near Johnstown, Co Meath, in February.

The driver’s body was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

In a separate incident, a pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car on Clontarf Road in Dublin at 6.30am.

Gardaí said the driver of the car was not injured.

Elsewhere, investigations are continuing in to a crash which claimed the life of a man in his 50s yesterday.

The motorist was killed when his car struck a tree at Tullabrack, Cooraclar, in Co Clare just after 5pm.

Meanwhile, AA Roadwatch warned the N6 Westmeath to Galway road is closed between Ballinasloe and Aughrim following a serious collision.

Diversions are in place until further notice.

Gardaí said no one has died in the incident.
