Irish Water Safety urges people to exercise caution
People considering taking to the water this weekend are being warned of cold temperatures and spring tides, according to the Irish Water Safety Association.
The association is urging people to exercise caution over the Easter weekend.
They said bank holiday weekends are traditionally dangerous times on Irish waterways.
Three people drown every week and temperatures of 10 degrees increase the risk of accidents and tragedies.
Chief Executive John Leech said alcohol and aquatic activities never mix.
