The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is urging people to be vigilant this bank holiday weekend.

The centre has said there has been a massive jump in rapes and sexual assaults over holiday periods, with attacks becoming more violent than ever.

They have warned that eight out of 10 victims are raped by someone they know.

Last Christmas, the DRCC accompanied 57 people to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the Rotunda Hospital.

Chief Executive Ellen O' Malley-Dunlop said there is an increasing number of people reporting attacks.
