Dublin event to mark death of Christ

Catholics in Ireland and around the world will commemorate the passion and death of Jesus Christ today.

As part of Good Friday events the Archbishop of Dublin is to lead the seventh annual "Way of the Cross" in Dublin's Phoenix Park.

It is to begin at the Wellington Monument at 12.30pm and proceed to the Papal Cross.

Similar events are taking place in all five continents from New York to Lagos to Hiroshima.

They are being organised by Catholic group "Communion and Liberation".
