Gardaí to resist any further policing cutbacks

Garda sergeants and inspectors are vowing to resist any further cutbacks to policing.

The AGSI is holding its annual conference in Co Westmeath today, with the issue of pay and staffing set to dominate the debate.

The union says members are furious about the new ban on recruitment and promotions in the Gardaí.

General Secretary Joe Dirwan says there's a danger that it could lead to crime levels spiralling out of control.
