C&D Pet Foods in Co Longford is cutting 29 jobs. The company in Edgeworthstown said it was due to a drop in revenue of around 33% as a result of the devaluing of sterling.

Twenty workers from one of the production lines will be let go at Easter, and another nine will be let go in the automation section.

The factory - which is part owned by the family of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds - was severely damaged in a fire in January 2006.
