ICTU to discuss strategy for social partnership talks
The executive council of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions is meeting today to discuss its strategy in the latest round of social partnership talks.
ICTU decided last week to call off its planned national day of protest after being invited back into talks on an economic recovery plan.
The Government has already held preliminary talks with unions and employers before the discussions get underway in earnest.
ICTU will be pressing for action on the 10-point plan it has put forward to ensure the burden of the economic recovery is shared fairly.
The employers' body IBEC, meanwhile, is insisting that workers must accept a lengthy pay freeze as part of any potential deal.
