Dell’s Limerick closure 'to cause 9,500 job losses'

An assessment compiled for the Government has reportedly found that almost 9,500 jobs will be lost in the mid-west as a result of Dell's decision to close its manufacturing base in Limerick.

Reports this morning say the Forfás assessment has concluded that companies supplying goods and services to the Raheen plant will have to shed around 6,900 positions.

It also reportedly concludes that Dell will lay off more than 2,500 workers, which is more than the 1,900 redundancies announced following the decision to transfer manufacturing from Limerick to Poland.

Local Labour Party TD Jan O'Sullivan says the report highlights the need for a rescue plan for the mid-west.
