Retail sales in Ireland were down by around one-fifth in January compared with the same month last year, according to statistics out today.

Retail sales in Ireland were down by around one-fifth in January compared with the same month last year, according to statistics out today.

The CSO says the volume of sales in January 2009 was 20.4% lower than in January 2008, while the value of sales was down 19.9%.
